Here’s the details of the 2014 Gatlinburg Winterfest kickoff event:
Every year, the Gatlinburg Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff takes place to set the magical atmosphere for the entire holiday season.
The Gatlinburg Winterfest kickoff event takes place on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. The event will kick off around 5 p.m. and last until around 8 p.m. with the lighting of over 1 million LED lights across Gatlinburg.
If you’re in town for the event, you really won’t want to miss it! It’s only $10 to attend, so grab your tickets, then all you have to do is make your way to downtown Gatlinburg to join in on the fun. People of all ages are welcome to attend, as it’s a perfect fit for everyone.
The night will start off with the annual Chili Cookoff and contest. Over the last few weeks, local restaurants, businesses and attractions have been perfecting their best chili recipes. When visitors arrive, these secret recipes will be put through a true test—visitors sample various chilis and then vote on their favorites. Winners will be announced that evening.
Make sure you don’t leave after the chili cookoff because you don’t want to miss the main event–the lighting of over 1 million LED holiday lights! If you’ve never seen the holiday lights in Gatlinburg, you’re definitely missing out on the beauty of the holiday season.
Every year, the Gatlinburg trolley service puts on a tour of the Gatlinburg lights, so even if you can’t make it to the main event, you can still see all of the lights!
The trolley tours begin with the Winterfest kickoff and don’t end until January 31. The holiday light tours take place at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. and only cost $5 per person. Trolleys are heated, so you can see all of the lights in a comfortable setting, without having to do any driving.
