Cades Cove is a beautiful section of historical sites and amazing scenery located in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. John Oliver Cabin

The John Oliver Cabin was constructed in 1822 and is the sites oldest standing structure. Built by John and Lucretia Oliver, it was home to these first permanent settlers of Cades Cove. The cabin can be found at the beginning of Cades Cove Loop Road. Visiting the John Oliver Cabin, many people will feel a true sense of history and how it was to live in the area during the early 1800s. It is definitely a site to see and a must visit for anyone traveling to the Smoky Mountains.

A visit to the Smoky Mountains is not complete without seeing an original church. The Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church was constructed in 1887 by Pastor William Howell Oliver. Oliver was pastor of this church from 1882 to 1940, the year he passed away. The church is truly a beautiful site and offers amazing views. Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church is known as “The Centerpiece of the Great Smokies of East Tennessee.”

Elijah Oliver Cabin

Built in 1866, the Elijah Oliver Cabin is one of the most remote buildings of Cades Cove. Elijah Oliver was deacon of the Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church for over 30 years and was a prominent citizen of the area. The cabin and spring house are something to see and truly beautiful.

Today, a visit to the area of Cades Cove can have anyone wishing they lived back in the early days. Although guests will be astonished by the area’s beauty, scenery, and wildlife, the historical buildings that can be seen are definitely amazing.
